Jordan hangs 11 men convicted of murder

Jordan executed 11 men convicted of murder on Sunday, ending an eight-year ban on death penalty in the country, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
"Eleven criminals convicted in different cases of murder were executed at dawn," the Jordanian Interior Ministry was quoted as saying, adding that all convicted were Jordanians.
There has been several calls recently in Jordan to lift the ban on death penalty to put an end to increasing rates of crime.
A number of countries in the Middle East continue to impose death penalty for serious crimes, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
