The State Security Court, on Monday, held 25 open and public sessions, including 21 hearings for 24 persons accused of recruiting, joining and promoting the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), aka Daash. One of the persons was arrested a few days ago, and another is still a fugitive.
The State Security Court ordered the imprisonment of Five defendants accused of joining and promoting for ISIS.
It held four sessions for the trial of the four accused. The first was charged with threatening to kill Australian tourists in the city of Petra and bomb their embassy in Amman, while the second was charged with acting against the regime.
The third accused was charged with possession of weapons and ammunition, and the fourth was charged with terrorist acts which could disturb the Kingdom's relationship with a foreign country and for trying to flee Jordan illegally.
Since the four accused had confessed to their crimes, the court decided not to summon any witnesses of the prosecution, as the prosecutor demanded maximum punishment as prescribed under the anti-terrorism law.
However, since the defendants asked the court for mercy, it was decided to adjourn the trial of three accused till next Monday, and the other till next Wednesday to review the four cases.
The court also decided to adjourn 10 sessions of 13 accused including a fugitive, to next Monday, and six sessions of six accused to Wednesday, to listen to the public prosecutor’s witnesses, evidence and the defense testimonies.
