Jordanian Foreign Minister participates in Gulf Cooperation Council meeting

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh took part on Wednesday in a joint ministerial meeting for the foreign ministers in the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Judeh voiced Jordan's keenness, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, to boost strategic cooperation with GCC countries, according to Petra News Agency. 

He also expressed Jordan's thanks and appreciation for the grant that was approved by GCC leaders to finance economic and development projects in Jordan, adding that the grant helped the Kingdom to address major economic challenges.

The minister also emphasized the importance of continuing consultations and coordination to enhance partnership between the GCC states and Jordan.

On the Palestinian issue, Judeh said the Palestinian cause will remain the central issue of the region, stressing the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to this issue that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital.

He also highlighted efforts of the Jordanian king to defend Al Quds and its holy sites within the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

On terrorism, Judeh said it is our legal, religious and humanitarian duty to counter terrorism that distorts the image of Islam and Muslims.

Judeh also affirmed the need to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people, and preserves the country's unity and independence. He spoke about the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, which is hosting a round 1.3 million Syrian refugees, who are placing an increasing pressure on the Kingdom's limited resources.

Jordan, he said, supports Iraq in its efforts to enhance security and stability, and liberate cities and villages from the Daesh terrorist group.

The minister also voiced Jordan's support to efforts that aim at restoring peace and stability in Yemen and Libya.
