Jordanian king meets delegation of Arab-international relations council

King Abdullah II of Jordan discussed with a delegation of the Arab and International Relations Council, led by Mohammad Jassem Al-Sager, the situations in the Middle East region.
The meeting focused on the role of the council, whose membership includes veteran politicians and political experts, in shedding light on the urgent causes of the Arab world and stablishing peace in the region, according to a statement issued by the Royal Court on Monday.
Regarding the fourth regular session of the council which got underway in Amman earlier today, King Abdullah II commended the council for putting the Palestine question atop the agenda of the meeting.
He noted that this issue remains to be the core of conflicts in the region and solving it fairly and comprehensively is the key to ending all these conflicts.
He briefed the delegation of Jordan's efforts to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, protect the Islamic and Christian sacred sites in Jerusalem, and establish an independent state of Palestine on the basis of the two-state vision and the Arab peace initiative.
On the anti-terrorism effort, King Abdullah II urged the Arab and Muslim countries to join forces to combat extremism and terrorism, highlighting the role of religious institutions in presenting the true values of Islam.
The meeting also dealt with the situations in Syria and Iraq, as well as other challenges facing the Arab countries and the role of the late king of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in defending the Arab causes.
Chairman of the Council Mohammad Jassem Al-Sager said that the council chose Jordan as venue for its fourth session in recognition of the Kingdom's role in the Palestine question and the anti-terrorism combat, as well as its close ties with almost all countries in the region and beyond.
On his part, Lebanon's former prime minister Fuad Siniora said, in a press statement following the meeting with the King, the meeting was fruitful and discussed a ranges of regional issues on the agenda of the current session of the council.
