
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) received 11 complaints in July, including five ill-treatment ones, three use of excessive force ones and three torture allegation cases, SIU member Ebrahim Al-Kawari stated.
He said that the SIU had already started investigating into the complaints it had received.
In this regard, he pointed out that the SIU had questioned 17 complainants in diverse cases, quizzed 13 public security forces’ members, and referred nine complainants to its forensic expert to identify their injuries and how they had happened, if they existed, and two others to its psychiatrist.
In another context, the SIU referred a policeman to the High Criminal Court in relation to the case of the death of the Fadhel Abbas in Al-Markh on January 8, 2014. He will stand trial on August 21, 2014.
The SIU requested he be punished in accordance with articles 75/4, 107/1, 333/1 and 339/1.
