Jordanian to hang for raping and killing daughter

A Jordanian has been sentenced to death for raping and impregnating his daughter then cutting her open to remove the foetus and letting her bleed to death, a judicial source said on Friday. The man had been charged with the murder of the 19-year-old in May 2010 and confessed to having had sex with his daughter for five years. "The 46-year-old suspect, who was charged with premeditated murder, rape and abortion, has confessed ... He said he has been having sex with his daughter for the past five years and that her mother knew about his acts," a police spokesman said last year. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday but it is not clear when the execution by hanging will be carried out. On Sunday, a 26-year-old man convicted of raping a seven-year-old girl while she was on her way to school was also sentenced to hang. Last year, Jordan reported more than 2,000 cases of violence against children, according to government statistics.
