A man who had been found guilty of killing a fellow Saudi following a dispute was executed in Riyadh on Thursday, the Ministry of Interior said.
A ministry statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said Ayed bin Hamel bin Ayed Al-Shaibani was found by a trial court to have shot dead Faihan bin Faleh bin Saud Al-Shaibani with an automatic rifle during an altercation. The statement did not mention when the crime was committed.
It said that a trial court’s verdict sentencing Al-Shaibani to death had been upheld by the Court of Appeal and later by the Supreme Court.
“The Ministry of Interior announces this to confirm that the Government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is keen on maintaining security and justice and warns at the same time that whoever commits such a crime would be legally punished thereof,” said the SPA report.
