
The Kingdom of Bahrain participated on Tuesday, 3rd of March 2015, in the 28th session of the Human Rights Council at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The Session kick-started on Monday, 3rd March, 2015 and is expected to continue until the 27th of the same month.
In a statement before the Council, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ambassador Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, affirmed the commitment of the Kingdom of Bahrain to its National constitution, Action Charter and legislations which all secure citizens and residents’ rights.
He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain is living up to the commitments and pledges it made to the United Nations and to its numerous mechanisms and agencies in order to safeguard human rights, a prerequisite to move with the kingdom of Bahrain towards further progress and prosperity and to proceed with the implementation of the ambitious reform scheme of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa which considers human Rights reinforcement a key component.
Ambassador Abdullatif cited on a number of human rights developments in Bahrain and announced the Kingdom’s intension to resume cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in areas like cooperation and capacity building and its plans to present a number of national reports to the UN Contractual Committees as well as to look into cooperating with the UN sides which implement its responsibilities and special procedures.
His Excellency the Ambassador also outlined the challenges facing the Kingdom of Bahrain, notably the escalation of violence in terms of innovative approaches, not number, and the politicized religious discourses that preach sectarian-based divide and hatred, which confuse between instigation and the right to freedom of speech, in a conflicting way with the principles of effective democratic participation.
