The human rights dossier is of paramount significance, and a top priority, to the State of Kuwait, Kuwaiti Ambassador in Doha Metaeb Al-Mutotah said here on Saturday.
Speaking to KUNA following the opening of a regional training course on human rights concepts and mechanisms, held especially for Kuwaiti diplomats in GCC countries, the ambassador said the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeks to promote and establish the concept of human rights within the diplomatic corps.
The ministry has developed an ambitious plan of action purposed to promote the role and effort of the State of Kuwait in the domain of human rights by means of upgrading the efficiency of its officials through specialized training courses.
Such courses are mainly intended to update the ministry's officials on the latest human rights developments and offer them diverse capabilities and skills in this regard, he added.
The supervisory team of the human rights promotion blueprint issues an annual publication on the human rights situation in Kuwait, the ambassador pointed out.
Al-Mutotah reiterated his country's full commitment to international human rights conventions and agreements, citing the recent UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a relevant resonant paradigm.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the NHRC Yusuf Obaidan said that human rights and relevant basic freedoms are of local, regional and international significance.
The better the State respects and safeguards human rights, the better it is placed on both regional and world maps, he opined.
But, Obaidan emphasized that it is shared responsibility of the entire international society to promote and safeguard human rights. The five-day regional training course is being co-organized by Qatari National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR).
Eight Kuwaiti diplomats working at US embassies in GCC countries are partaking in the course which kick-started in the Qatari capital earlier today.
