Kuwait to establish hi-tech traffic monitoring system

The Kuwait Municipality signed Tuesday a multi-million dinars deal with a foreign company to establish a world-class, highly sophisticated system for monitoring traffic across the nation.
"The traffic monitoring system is the first of its kind in the Middle East region and would help create a data base bank about the traffic across Kuwait," General Director Eng. Ahmad Al-Subaih told reporters on the sidelines of the contract signing ceremony.
He added that the system will cost KD 5.5 million and will start operation after 18 months.
The system will monitor and provide around-the-clock data about the traffic situation on the main roads in Kuwait, Al-Subaih stated.
He noted that monitoring and data collection devices would be installed in more than 200 sites on the main roads and in nearly 2,700 sites on road intersections and roundabouts.
The data would be sent by wireless means to the traffic data center at the Kuwait Municipality to be analyzed and classified by a specialized team.
