Kuwaiti emir addresses Arab Summit

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah addressed the inaugural session of the 26th Arab Summit on Saturday.
The Emir stressed that the situation in the Arab region was getting worse and more complicated, giving example of the deteriorating security situations in Libya and Yemen.
The Kuwaiti leader said the chances of holding the current session of the Arab summit were diminishing due to the various regional complications.
Yet, he expressed his optimism that Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will lead the joint Arab action, "We are confident that he will put Egypt's potential and capabilities to serve the Arab nation's causes."
The Kuwaiti Emir reiterated his country's support for all Arab countries during such exceptional circumstances.
Speaking at the 26th Arab Summit, the Emir criticized the so-called Arab Spring which destabilized the region and led to a sharp decline in the development rates and hindered progress.
He called for collective effort to counter challenges facing the region, mainly terrorism, urging new strategies and methods to curb extremism ideology in the region.
Kuwait's Emir asserted that the Palestinian cause will remain a priority to the Arab region, noting that stability can not be achieved without solving the Palestinian issue by establishing an independent state with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.
Turning to the Yemeni crisis, the Emir said that his country backed the Saudi-led coalition after all the peaceful solutions to defuse the crisis were exhausted, noting that the Houthi militants posed a direct threat to the Gulf states.
He called for immediate implementation of the Gulf initiative, with abidance by results of the comprehensive national dialogue, urging the whole world to support the people of Yemen during this critical phase.
The Kuwaiti leader also expressed his country's concern over the situation in Libya and its impact on the region, underlining the importance of a peaceful solution to the Libyan crisis.
He also touched on the Iranian nuclear program, urging Iran to respond to the international efforts in this regard to dispel doubts in the international community.
At the end of his speech the Kuwaiti Emir handed over the presidency of the summit to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
