Kuwait's second periodic comprehensive report to be submitted to the UN Human Rights Council will reply to all enquiries and remarks related to the country's rights record, MP Abdulhameed Dashti said on Monday.
The National Assembly Human Rights Committee (HRC) today reviewed efforts by the preparatory panel for the periodic report to be submitted to the Geneva-based Council for discussion on January 28, Dashti, who is HRC head, told reporters.
The statement followed today's discussions between the HRC and representatives of the Foreign Ministry.
The report will reply to 159 remarks and recommendations, of which Kuwait has approved 123 of them, he said.
During todays' meeting, the HRC was briefed on the ministerial decree 24/2014 by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, on the relevant bodies represented in the HRC for preparing the country's human rights periodic reports.
The second periodic report on Kuwait's human rights record has been prepared in line with the acknowledged principles for such reports, offering replies to all enquiries, Dashti stressed.
The major issues the National Assembly is highly interested in include establishing a national diwan for human rights, a family court and issuing the child law, in addition to the decisions taken by the Central Apparatus for Illegal Residents regarding Bedouns (stateless people) and also the labor.
The report covers all these issues, Dashti said, noting that the Kuwaiti delegation to address the UN Council will include a government team and parliamentarian one as well as representatives of the civil society.
