Large quantity of war weapons, munitions seized in Algeria's Oued

A cache containing 131 weapons of war and a large quantity of munitions has been seized in Bir-Dher, in the province of El Oued, 650-km southeast of Algiers, by detachments of the Algerian army on Saturday, Algeria's official news agency quoted the country's Ministry of National Defense as saying Saturday.

"As part of the fight against terrorism and following the operation, which resulted in the killing of 14 terrorists during March 2016 in El-Oued (4th Military Region), and following the operation, which allowed the recovery of a large quantity of weapons and munitions on April 15, Army detachments discovered, during a search and combing operation in the locality of Bir-Dher, in El Oued a cache containing 131 weapons of war of different types, a large quantity of munitions and 14 walkie-talkies," the ministry added in a statement.

"Three 60mm-mortars, two FM machine guns with four cannons, two RPK machine guns, four RPG-7 rocket-launchers, two RPG-5 rocket-launchers, 117 Kalashnikov submachine guns, one rifle with telescopic sight, 310 Kalashnikov magazines, nine RPK magazines, 51 Kalashnikov butts and a bag containing electric detonators," the statement said.

The Army detachments also recovered "70 shells for 60-mm-mortars, 68 grenades, 125 fuses for 60-mm-mortars, 127 RPG-7 rockets, four rolls of detonating fuse, six anti-tank mines, a quantity of munitions of different calibres, as well as 14 walkie-talkies with their accessories," it added.

"These results confirm, once again, the commitment and determination of the Army and the different security services to foil any attempt to cross the national borders and threaten the national territorial integrity," the statement concluded.
