House of Representatives member Ali Abdel Rehim Ali called on the government to reveal 'despicable conspiracies' by independent labor unions in light of reports that the International Cooperation and Social Solidarity Ministries started checking those unions' funding sources.
In an urgent statement sent to Speaker Ali Abdel Aal, the lawmaker said contacts between those unions and international donor organizations have been detected as those contacts aimed to incite protests within labor circles in Egypt and against the Egyptian Trade Union Federation.
The government has to counter strongly anyone trying to vandalize or undermine the Egyptian state through receiving foreign funding for malicious purposes under the cloak of supporting democracy and human rights, he said.
The Egyptian people have the right to know every detail about the foreign funding file as the government has to reveal the names of receivers, the amount of money received and the foreign financiers, he added.
