Lawyer files complaint with general prosecutor calling for travel ban on Egypt's former military leader Mohamed Hussein Tantawi pending investigations into protester deaths Samir Sabry, a lawyer, submitted a complaint with the general prosecutor on Sunday calling for a travel ban on Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, former leader of the military council. Sabry told Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper that 30 complaints had been filed with the general prosecutor against Tantawi and former chief of staff, Sami Anan, over the killing of protesters following the January 25 Revolution. The travel ban would remain in place until the investigations were complete, he added. The army are accused of killing protesters at Maspero in October, Mohamed Mahmoud Street in November and near the Cabinet office in December. The military council, headed by Tantawi, ruled Egypt for nearly 18 months following the ouster of former president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011. Tantawi was retired by President Mohamed Morsi on 12 August as part of a large-scale military reshuffle. From ahramonline
