Abdulghani Kabbarah, representative of Future Movement in north Lebanon, said Saturday UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Humanitarian Leader came in recognition of Kuwait's outstanding relief efforts.
"The Future Movement and all residents of north Lebanon thank His Highness the Amir and the Kuwaiti people and government for helping Lebanon accommodate the large numbers of Syrian refugees," Kabbara said.
He made the comments at a ceremony held by the movement to commemorate the contributions of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to the development of vital projects in the northern Lebanese regions.
He appreciated the efforts of KFAED and the other Kuwaiti fund-raising agencies for helping alleviate the burdens on Lebanon which hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees.
On his part, KFAED's representative in Lebanon Nawaf Al-Dabbous reviewed the projects implemented by the Fund such as the rehabilitation of the power grid in Akar area and the government-run Orang-Naso Hospital in Tripoli.
The KFAED-funded projects also include the launching of centers for emergency, farm produce storage and socio-economic development in Akar, as well as a clinic in Rahba town, potable water and drainage networks in Al-Badawi and Busha districts, and the rehabilitation of Al-Dhania school, he said in an address to the ceremony.
Al-Dabbous added that these projects cost up to USD 32 million out of the USD 300 million donated by Kuwait in 2006.
The ceremony was attended by Ahmad Al-Sabti, representative of Kuwait Ambassador to Lebanon and other local and municipal leaders.
