Libyan interior minister resigns

Libyan Interior Minister Mohamed al-Sheikh in the interim government resigned on Sunday, after only three months in office, an official statement said. Prime Minister Ali Zeidan accepted the resignation and assigned Deputy Prime Minister al-Seddik Abdelkrim to run the Interior Ministry until a new minister is appointed, said a statement posted on the government's Facebook page. Earlier in the day, sources told Xinhua that al-Sheikh tendered his resignation without stating any reasons that prompted him to do so. Al-Sheikh was appointed as interior minister in May in succession to Achour Chwayel, who tendered his resignation to Zeidan after about six months in office amid severe criticism, due to his failure in forming security bodies. Libya is suffering security chaos like many other countries in the Middle East region, frequently witnessing political assassinations and attacks.
