Libya's army deplored remarks made by the US ambassador to the Arab country on air strikes launched by the military.
Deborah K. Jones alleged in a tweet that the raids left eight civilians dead on Monday.
"The army's chief of staff ..decries what the US ambassador said on Twitter," said a statement released by the military.
It said the raids targeted a Fajir-Libya-linked militia. Fajir Libya has been controlling Tripoli where it formed a rival government.
Allegations that civilians were killed in the attack are unfounded, said the statement, adding that the militia attacked the house of a military commander who was killed and four of his relatives.
The army termed as "support for terrorism" the US diplomat's remarks.
