The Luxor prosecution ordered the trial of 4 policemen and five non-commissioned policemen before a criminal court over the torture of a citizen to death while in police custody.
Two weeks ago, the police detained Talaat Shabeeb, 47, at a café in El Awameya district of Luxor over alleged drug possession. His family was later informed that he had died and his body was brought to a Luxor hospital.
According to a forensic report issued last Thursday, Shabeeb was beaten in the neck and back, causing fractures in the spine and severing the spinal cord.
