A mass rally in Damietta to celebrate the new Suez Canal opening took place on Tuesday.
The rally was organized by the Public Coalition to Support Egypt and the President.
Officials, public leaders, Azhar imams, Christian clerics and thousands of citizens took part in the rally.
The participants hailed the President, the Armed forces, the Interior Ministry, workers and companies who achieved the mega project within one year.
Egypt inaugurates the New Suez Canal on Thursday, which will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important opportunity to boost the country’s economy.
The 72-kilometer new project involves a 37-kilometer new waterway and deepening and expansion of the existing 145-year-old Suez Canal along a 35-kilometer stretch.
