
HE Minister of Justice Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan said Saturday that the State of Qatar, under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, was committed to the rule of law and understand its importance in achieving sustainable development.
HE the Minister was giving a speech during the Asian Society of International Law conference, which is taking place in Thailand. His Excellency said that Qatar was keen on participating in different conferences to exchange ideas and place policies and strategies that contribute to enhancing the rule of law on a regional and international scale.
HE the Minister highlighted that Qatar National Vision 2030, which was established by HH the Emir, act as the guide to the state for the future and reflects the aspirations of the Qatari people. HE the Minister also said that the role of the Ministry of Justice was to contribute to the vision by enhancing the rule of law through initiatives related to the legislative fields.
HE the Minister praised the Asian Society of International Law conference, saying it played an active role in promoting the dialogue on the rule of law and its relation to sustainable development. It also merged the idea of the rule of law and security as core requirements, HE the Minister added.
Furthermore, HE the Minister of Justice noted that the current conference comes weeks after the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was held in Qatar, with its success welcomed by the international community through adopting the Doha declaration.
HE the Minister added that the declaration succeeded in linking the responsibilities of governments and non-government organizations among other authorities in fields that include the rule of law and preventing crime on a national and international level. His Excellency then concluded his remarks by saying that the current conference will become and added value to the Doha Declaration and called on the participants to implement resolutions of the Asian Society of International Law conference.
