The Ministry of Health announced the launch of a new program that aims to determine suitable medicines for each patient through genetic analysis. This revolutionary step comes after recent studies showed the links between patient's widely varied responses to particular drugs of the same kind.
The program was launched by the Director of Clinical Pharmacology and Director of the Pharmacology Research Directorate at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yousif Aloumi, within a project called "Consumers’ Consultant”, which is being run from the headquarters of the Consumer Protection Society.
The program discusses the effects of antibiotics on health, and the safe ways of using them.
In other news, Aloumi said that preparations for the “Genetic Pharmacology Care” program have recently been completed; the program aims to define suitable medications for each patient. He added that the program is now awaiting its official approval, and he hopes that the launch will be announced soon.
He also called on all consumers who are suffering due to the increase in the prices of medicine, their shortage in the private sector or from faults in their manufacture to report any complaints to the Food and Drug Authority.
Aloumi also advised people to keep medications at room temperature or in the fridge, and to only use them according to the instructions of their doctor.
Pointing out that children are more likely to contract bacterial infections than adults, international organisations have advised the public to give vaccinations to their children regularly.
They also advise people to be aware of the production and expiration dates of their mediations before taking them, and to not take medications prescribed to other people.
Aloumi further confirmed that good immunity and regular medications when needed are the most important methods for keep patients healthy.
