Moroccan authorities have arrested two people linked to the radical Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as they prepared to leave the country to join ISIS camps, the Interior Ministry said Friday.
The two men, who have connections with foreign extremists, were planning to get military training in ISIS camps before returning to carry out attacks in Morocco, in accordance with ISIS plans to expand the scope of its operations outside of Syria and Iraq, the ministry said in a statement.
Investigations revealed that one of the men is closely related to a Fez-based criminal gang headed by a former detainee under the Terrorism Act, the statement added.
The investigations also led to the arrest of four individuals in the same city in connection with this criminal gang.
