The phenomena of extremism and fanaticism are evident among followers of all faiths and are not characteristic of one particular religion, said Ibrahim Negm, an adviser to the Egyptian Mufti.
The Egyptian Iftaa House is acting to correct the image of Islam and Muslims, and the wrong concepts promoted by terrorist groups resulting in the current Islamophobia in the West, Negm said Tuesday at a lecture to review efforts by the Iftaa House to fight extremist ideologies.
Those groups are acting under the cover of religion, which, to the contrary, promotes moderation and mercy, he added.
In Egypt, Muslim and Christian institutions are acting to intellectually fight Daesh terrorist group and uncover its ideological infrastructure, Negm said.
