The New Suez Canal inauguration ceremony started on Thursday.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has arrived at the waterfront in Ismailia and boarded the presidential yacht, El Mahrousa, which will be the first vessel to cross the New Suez Canal, in the presence of a host of world leaders and heads of state.
The president, wearing a military uniform, boarded the 150-year-old yacht and is accompanied by Suez Canal Authority Chairman Mohab Mamish.
The Egyptian Air Force held an air show featuring Rafale and F16 combat jets.
President Sisi saluted the masses who lined up on the bank of the canal.
