
New round of negotiations between the Sudanese government delegation, which is led by Assistant of President Ibrahim Mahmoud and the Armed Movements in the presence of Yassir Arman, Menni Arko Minawi and the Chairman of National Umma Party Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi began on Friday in Addis Ababa, SUNA reported.
Chairman of the African Union High-level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) Thabo Mbeki chaired the sitting and presented a full briefing for the delegations on objectives and agenda of this round of the negotiations.
He stressed that the round will discuss the strategic issues in general by focusing on how to halt the war and make arrangements that will lead to comprehensive peace besides discussing issues of the two areas and linking all these issues with the political issues of whole Sudan which are being discussed by National Dialogue Conference.
Mbeki presented during the sitting viewpoints he received from the Government of Sudan and the National Dialogue's High Coordinative Committee as response to the Mechanism request to the parties to agree upon agenda that links the three issues of national dialogue and the two areas and Darfur together.
Head of the Government delegation, on his part, renewed that the government supports halt of war, indicating that stoppage of war will lead to solve of problems of humanitarian issues, free movements of people and realization of security and stability.
Mahmoud stressed that negotiations should be directed towards immediate halt of war then moved to security arrangements for forces after stoppage of war as internationally known.
He said that the government is ready to discuss with those who have desire issues of the national dialogue and to present its recommendations to forces which want to be part of the General Conference of the National Dialogue.
The head of the government delegation affirmed readiness to listen to points of view which will be referred with the recommendations of the national dialogue to the general conference which will determine future of the country.
