Tindouf camps, on the Algerian soil, live to the rhythm of protests in a climate of heightened tension, which prompted Polisario to toughen its blockade on the camps, the Moroccan Alliance for Citizenship and Human rights warned Monday.
In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary General, the NGO calls for “urgent action to put an end to the violations and abuses carried out by Polisario militia and Algerian forces against the demonstrators in Tindouf camps”, to free the hostages and guarantee their right to freedom of movement and expression.
The Alliance, an independent NGO active in the fields of human rights and citizenship, called on the UN Secretary General to carry out a population census in Tindouf camps.
It also calls for recognizing “the key role of Algeria in the conflict”.
