OIC condemn Houthi rebels 'coup d'etat' in Yemen

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemned on Sunday what it described as a "coup d'etat" launched by Houthi rebels against the government in Yemen and their "blatant disregard" of constitutional institutions.
After assuming armed control of all state bodies in Yemen, including the presidential palace, Houthi rebels on Saturday announced their own government moments after the forced resignation of President Abd Rabbu Mansur Hadi.
"This coup d'etat threatens to demolish national, regional and international efforts, which all Yemeni sides took part in aiming to protect the unity of their country's land and people," said OIC chief Iyad bin Amin Madani.
It also threatens the peace, stability and security of Yemen, the region and the world, added the OIC secretary general in a statement.
He urged support of the Gulf Cooperation Council statement which rejects the move, dubbed by Houthis as the 'Constitutional Declaration,' reiterating that it runs counter to international legitimacy and the GCC-brokered initiative, which was unanimously backed by the international community.
Madani called on the international community to follow in suit by condemning the action and refusing to acknowledge its results.
