Director General of the Political Affairs Department with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Tarek Bakhiet asserted on Tuesday that the OIC could play a mediation role in the Saudi-Iranian row provided the approval of the parties concerned.
Speaking to the London-based Al Hayat newspaper, Bakhiet said the OIC cannot breach the general governing principles to solve any dispute between the member states.
This came after Saudi Arabia cut off its diplomatic relations with Iran against the backdrop of the attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashad in protest at the Saudi execution of 47 terrorists.
He stressed the OIC is committed to its charter's items and cannot interfere in the internal affairs of any country.
