Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour said during his speech in the Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) that Palestine is proud of becoming a member of the NPT and of participating in this conference for the first time.
In a statement Thursday, Mansour thanked all the states that greeted Palestine for joining the treaty.
Mansour asserted that Palestine is committed and responsible for achieving the aims of the treaty including disarmament, non-proliferation and using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Israel is the only state in the Middle East that is not part of the NPT, he said.
The conference should pay serious attention to the Arab recommendations in this respect, he reiterated.
