House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal warned against challenges facing the Arab region, mainly terrorism which he termed as a "cancer" that threatens the present and future of the Arab nations.
Addressing the 23rd session of the Arab Parliamentary Union on Sunday, he stressed the need to restore the spirit of Arab solidarity in facing challenges at the regional and international levels.
The meetings are being held amidst critical developments at the regional and international levels, he said, warning against the danger of the spread of extremism.
At the beginning of his speech, Abdel Aal welcomed Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his accompanying delegation to Egypt.
It is the first time for a Saudi king to visit the Egyptian parliament, he said, hailing King Salman's great achievements in the past year.
