The plane hijack crisis has ended safely and the government is following up the developments closely, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said.
The plane’s Egyptian passengers will be brought back home from Cyprus as soon as possible, the prime minister told the state TV.
The hijacker is an Egyptian national but has not made specific demands, the premier said.
During the crisis, he once demanded meeting a European Union representative and at another time asked that the plane take off from Larnaca, Ismail said.
The hijacker will be interrogated for the real reasons behind the operation, he said.
Minutes ago, the Cypriot Foreign Ministry confirmed that the hijacker was arrested.
Earlier Tuesday, the EgyptAir Airbus A320, with 50 passengers on board along with seven cabin crew members and one security officer, was hijacked and forced to land in Cyprus.
Flight MS181 passenger plane was originally traveling from Alexandra's Borg El Arab Airport to Cairo.
