The Refugee Affairs Department of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) on Saturday called on the United Nations to work for ending the suffering of the Palestinian refugees.
In a statement, the PLO called on the UN to put resolution no. 194, issued in December 1948, into effect.
The resolution states that "the refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date."
Chairman of the PLO's Refugee Affairs Department Zakaria al Agha said the Palestinian refugees would not give up their right of return and hope the international community would help them in this regard.
The PLO is committed to its principled and firm position towards the solution of the refugee issue by applying the UN resolutions in this regard, he concluded.
