
Prime Minister Sherif Ismail attended a ceremony on Saturday celebrating the first Nile Rive transportation trip that starts from Damietta going to Aswan through Cairo.
The transportation ships are expected to stop in the Delta City of Zefta, Gharbia on its way to Aswan.
The celebration was attended by Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hosam Moghazi, Transport Minister Saad el Gioshy, Minister of Local Development Ahmed Zaki Badr, Petroleum Minister Tarek el Mulla and Damietta Governor Ismail Abdel Hamid.
Transportation ministry has about 11,000 vessels that can transport goods according to the time table, Gioshy said.
A test shipment trip was conducted from Damietta port and stopped in Zefta, Moghazi noted.
The project is expected to generate new economic benefits and is part of a plan to link Lake Victoria in the south and the Mediterranean Sea in the North, the minister added.
