Prime Minister Saad Hariri chaired, at the Grand Serail on Friday, a meeting for the ministerial committee tasked with following up on the issue of over one million Syrians displaced into Lebanon.
"Discussions basically focused on setting a state policy regarding the displaced Syrians," State Minister for the Affairs of the Displaced, Mouein Merehbi, told reporters following the meeting.
"We hope that the paper would be finalized within one month; the committee shall then forward it before the Cabinet to bring it into effect," he said.
The Minister also indicated that talks touched on the issue of businesses owned by Syrians, and which are neither relevant to the professions allowed by the Lebanese code of labor nor to international agreements in that respect.
"The Prime Minister has accordingly given key instructions to set a report on the economic, social, and developmental repercussions of displacement," Merehbi said.
"We maintain that the international community must help the Lebanese government," he concluded.
It is to note that the aforementioned committee comprises, alongside Merehbi, Ministers Ghassan Hasani (Public Health), Marwan Hamade (Education), Ali Hassan Khalil (Finance), Gebran Bassil (Foreign Affairs), Nohad Mashnouq (Interior), Pierre Abu Assi (Social Affairs), and Raed Khoury (Economy).
Separately, Hariri met with Minister of Defense Yaacoub al-Sarraf, and Minister of Interior Nohad Mashnouq, with whom he discussed the condition of home security.
