Militants opened fire on a car carrying a Lebanese policeman and his family near the northeast border town of Arsal Friday, killing the officer and wounding his wife, a security source said.
The source told The Daily Star that Zaher Ezzeddine from the Internal Security Forces' Information Branch died after coming under fire from militants driving a black Kia Rio.
The incident took place in the Arsal outskirt of Wadi Hosn, where Ezzeddine resides.
Another source said Ezzeddine's wife, son and daughter suffered only light wounds. The source said that Ezzeddine, a known figure in the area, was the target of the attack.
Militants from Daesh and Al Qaeda-affiliate Al Nusra Front are holed up on the outskirts of the town.
