Policemen are subject to the law and held accountable for their action like any other citizen, Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar said on Tuesday.
Commenting on the killing of a worker and injury of two passers-by at the hands of a non-commissioned officer in New Cairo earlier in the day, Abdel Ghaffar said any policeman could be referred to the prosecution if he committed a violation.
He underlined: "Such incidents should not make us forget sacrifices of policemen."
"Egypt is a state of law," he said, giving an example of former agriculture minister Salah Helal, who was sentenced to ten years over corruption charges.
The Interior Ministry regularly organizes training programs for policemen to rehabilitate them, the minister underlined.
A dispute over the price of beverages was behind the killing of a worker and injury of two passers-by at the hands of a non-commissioned officer in New Cairo earlier on Tuesday, the Interior Ministry media office said in a statement.
Policeman Zeinhom Abdurrazeq was on duty in Rehab residential neighborhood when he opened fire at the trio following a quarrel over the price of drinks, the statement added.
