President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Secretary General of Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz has expressed his concern over the state of alert of the Moroccan army in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, warning against the dangerous consequences of a possible Moroccan aggression, said the Sahrawi news agency SPS.
In a letter to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, President Abdelaziz expressed his "deep concern" over the recent developments in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, warning against the consequences of these developments not only on the Sahrawi people but also on the United Nations and the international community."
The Sahrawi president said "Morocco has deployed its army in the occupied territories since a week, backed by the land and air forces, which have been put on high alert."
In this regard, he said that "this is an unprecedented mobilization of the Moroccan army since the signing of the ceasefire between the Sahrawi and Moroccan armies on 6 September 1991."
The Sahrawi president also warned against a possible "Moroccan aggression against the liberated territories of Western Sahara where the Sahrawi army troops, administration, civilians and the UN centres are based."
Such action would be a "violation of the ceasefire in effect between the two sides to the conflict, the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco," he said.
The Sahrawi president called on the UN to "immediately intervene and take all necessary measures to prevent Morocco from perpetrating such action, which would have serious consequences on the efforts of the United Nations and on peace, security and stability in the region."
