President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued a decree Sunday to pardon prisoners on the occasion of Sinai Liberation Day celebrations falling on April 25.
The decree sets the conditions for releasing the prisoners, including that they have to have served 15 years before the advent of 25 April 2016 this year, but, still, will have to be released on a five-year parole.
The pardon decree also covers those who have served half their terms before the advent of April 25 conditional that they have spent a minimum of six months in jail.
Inmates excluded from the pardon are those convicted in crimes prescribed in the penalty code including, but not limited to, undermining the government’s security, bribery, forgery, disrupting public transport, possession of weapons and ammunition, drug dealing, prostitution, illicit gains, construction crimes, child-related crimes, money laundering, human trafficking and vandalizing property.
