The Minister of Labour and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nidal Qatamin, called on the Arab delegations participating in the 41st session of the Arab Labour Organization (ALO) Conference being held in Cairo to urge the international community to support Jordan which is shouldering the burden posed by the influx of Syrian refugees.
During the meeting which included 21 Arab Labour Ministers and 22 Arab and international organizations, Qatamin reviewed the burdens being shouldered by Jordan as a result of receiving nearly a million Syrian refugees who have exerted much pressure on the Kingdom's infrastructure and job market.
He also stressed the importance of joint Arab cooperation to overcome issues of poverty and unemployment in the Arab world.
In a press statement issued today by the Ministry of Labour, Qatamin said the Arab world feels the grief and sorrow for what is happening in some Arab countries in terms of bloody conflicts that have led to the loss of many lives and resulted in hundreds of thousands of people being displaced or becoming refugees.
Qatamin thanked the ALO General Director, Ahmad Luqman, for the tremendous efforts he exerted to improve the organization's performance despite several regional challenges.
On the sideline of the meeting, Qatamin met with a number of his counterparts and discussed ways to solve issues of poverty and unemployment as well as aspects of cooperation in the fields of training and labour.
