
Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Thursday received a copy of the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) 2013 annual report when he received the Commission's president Samih Bino in his office .
Tarawneh praised the Commission's role and accomplishments in preventing corruption, stressing the House's desire to support and cooperate with the ACC.
The report highlights the ACC's efforts undertaken in coordination with other anti-graft bodies.
Bino reviewed the Commission's efforts in spreading awareness about corruption, preventing it and its views on the challenges and hindrances it encountered in its work. He also talked about ways to enhance the role of the state's oversight bodies and increase cooperation between them and the Commission.
On law enforcement, the report noted that the ACC dealt with 1,808 complaints and notifications in 2013, of which 1,151 were reserved, while the data and investigation section dealt with 230 cases, 74 of which were referred to the prosecutor general, including 50 related to the private sector.
During 2013, the ACC contributed in retrieving over JD25 million in addition to real estate, ploughing these into the treasury.
