Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security Hesham Badr on Sunday said Egypt launched an initiative to organize a regional conference in September on ways to combat human trafficking and illegal migration.
Meeting Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office in Cairo Carmela Godeau, the assistant minister said that African countries and international organizations would take part in the conference to find fresh solution to deal with the two problems.
During the conference, Egypt will focus on helping countries in the Horn of Africa in achieving sustainable development, expanding irregular migration paths, achieving the millennium development goals, implementing development projects and providing job opportunities, Badr said.
Egypt will present development projects at the national and regional levels in this regard during the conference, he added.
The meeting dealt with the disasters of sinking boats of illegal immigrants and victims of human trafficking.
