Riots erupted late on Sunday night in Baghdad Central Prison, formerly known as Abu Ghraib prison, the biggest jail in Iraq, local police said. The riots started in one of the prison's sections and escalated when a number of inmates set fire to a number of cells, a security source told KUNA today. The prison guards are currently working to contain the situation, and a rapid deployment force had rushed to the prison to back up the facility's security and prevent escape attempts, it added. The source would not reveal whether the riots resulted in any casualties or escapes, saying further information will be announced in an official statement.
