Port Said security bodies have been put on high alert ahead of a ruling session in the retrial of 73 defendants charged with killing 74 fans in the outrage that followed a soccer game between Al Ahly Club and local Al Masry in 2012.
Nine security officials are among the defendants.
The court will also announce the mufti's decision on death sentences handed down for 11 defendants.
Troops have been heavily deployed at entrances to and exits of the city and along the Canal waterway.
Port Said security chief Faisal Dewidar said in statements on Friday that the city is witnessing a state of stability, noting that armored vehicles and riot police have been deployed to secure the Canal city.
