
Head of the Jordanian mission in Ramallah, Khalid Shawabkeh, attended the midnight mass in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, which was held as part of the Christmas celebrations.
Shawabkeh during the celebration, which was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people to Christians, stressing attention given by His Majesty to Christian denominations who constitute an integral part of the social fabric in Jordan and Palestine. His Majesty is very keen to safeguard and protect Islamic and Christian holy sites and maintain the historic Arab Christian presence in Palestine, said Shawabkeh.
Shawabkeh also conveyed His Majesty's greetings to Patriarch Theophilos III, patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine and all Christian denominations.
In his remarks during the celebrations, Abbas highlighted His Majesty's role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites, stressing the advanced ties between Jordan and Palestine.
Abbas voiced his appreciation and that of the Palestinian people to Jordan’s supportive stance towadrs the Palestinians
