Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reiterated Egypt's firm position on Yemen, namely to maintain the unity of the Arab country and the integrity of its territories.
A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said Shoukry's statements came in a speech during the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The foreign minister said that Egypt backs a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis and has stood by Yemen in the past even during the difficult times and extended support for its cadres in the fields of education, religion and health.
He said that the Arab region is facing an escalation of sectarianism and terrorism as a result of misunderstanding of the teachings of Islam.
Shoukry called on Yemeni parties to shoulder their responsibility and cooperate to overcome the country's crisis and achieve peace in line with the initiative of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
