The Shura Council denounced in a statement today foreign interference in Bahrain's internal affairs, stressing that the double standards adopted by some countries and organisations do not help in combating terrorism and stopping violence as they threaten civil security and peace.
The council pointed out that Bahrain is a sovereign country that is proud of its judicial system and constitutional institutions. It affirmed that all people in Bahrain are equal before the law, pointing out the recent parliamentary and municipal elections which were lauded by the international community for their transparency and large popular participation.
The council affirmed that the irresponsible statements by some countries undermine relations with them and do not help in building trust. It said Bahrain has always respected the sovereignty of other countries and rejects any interference in its own internal affairs.
It stressed that Bahrain's security and stability are an economic, political and social priority, underlining the need to draw lessons from the destruction and insecurity suffered by other countries.
