Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Friday took part in a meeting of the the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), held in Ethiopia's Addis Ababa ahead of the 26th session of the African Union Summit.
Sisi's participation in the African Summit comes as part of Egypt's keenness on activating ties with the various African countries, promoting participation in the joint African action and settling conflicts in the continent and enhancing social and economic development.
The PSC will focus on three main issues, namely the situation in South Sudan, counter-terrorism efforts and the recent developments in Burundi.
On Thursday, Egypt secured a PSC membership for three years starting from 2016 until 2019, with 47 votes from the AU countries.
Following the announcement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the move came as part of Egypt's efforts to play an effective role in supporting and promoting security and peace in the African continent, which is going through a crucial phase.
