Thousands of Beni Suef residents laid the body of a slain police captain to rest on Thursday.
Mohamed Essam Sorour was killed in Beni Suef earlier in the day when unidentified persons driving a motorbike opened fire at him.
Beni Suef governor Mohamed Selim and police commanders led the funeral of the martyred officer.
During the funeral, the mourners chanted anti-Muslim Brotherhood and terrorism slogans.
Islamist militants have increased attacks against security forces, army men and judges since Mohamed Morsi of Muslim Brotherhood was ousted following mass protests against his arbitrary rule.
In December 2013, the government declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, blaming it for a string of attacks in the country and banning all its activities nationwide.
