Security agencies intensified measures around churches, monasteries and archdioceses in different villages and towns in Sohag in preparation for Eastern Christmas celebrations, which fall on January 7.
Formations of the Central Security Forces, disengagement and combat groups and police officers have been deployed for securing the event, Sohag Security Director Ahmed Abul Fotouh told MENA.
All streets leading to churches and archdioceses will be closed during Eastern Christmas and roadblocks will be erected in their vicinity, Abul Fotouh said.
No cars, motorbikes or any vehicles will be allowed to park near churches, he noted.
